I’ll keep it to the point since you’re not here to find out the color of my eyes.
You want to know about my skill and knowledge as a drummer!
I started playing drums in 1997, when I was nine. I was instantly hooked to the instrument though my relationship with my drum teachers was hit or miss. I often felt bored with the lessons and didn’t always want to practice. When I turned 13, I stopped taking lessons and started a band. My passion for my craft exploded and a whole new world opened up. From that moment on, all I cared about was my music.
I was in many bands and wrote many songs and in the decade that followed I played over 1,000 shows. Around 2010 a friend of mine approached me who was curious about taking drum lessons and I was thrilled with the idea. After I began that journey I started wanting to know more about the music business and ended up graduated with a degree in Music Business from Berklee. I continued taking lessons and realizing that my teachers, though good, had not taught me the way I needed to be taught. I vowed to become the teacher who was able to teach each student differently based on their needs, aspirations and even their personalities. I don't stick to the status quo, I do and teach what is logical.
I've been a student of Carlos' for about a year now. I signed up just out of curiosity. I didn't even have any drums yet--just sticks and a blanket in my lap. Carlos was patient as I slowly worked my way from practice pad, to practice pad with snare stand, to snare drum, snare drum with hi hat, snare drum with hi hat and office paper box bass drum (lol). I'm now one cymbal shy of a full kit and never imagined I'd be here. I've had music lessons in the past, but I never stuck with them b/c my teachers always followed an established approach that I had to fit into. Carlos is just the opposite -- he worked with me where I was, and how I needed to learn, and that's made such a difference. Music lessons were never this much fun! I also really appreciate what Carlos is doing with his charity--music has always been my #1 passion and lifeline--connecting kids to music who wouldn't otherwise have the means or opportunity is nothing short of life changing.
I've been with Carlos for about 2 years now. There was a lot of skills I wanted to improve upon towards my drum technique when I started, and Carlos has helped me achieve this! I'm pleased with his service. I had drum lessons when I was younger, but wasn't able to retain information as well as with Carlos. He finds techniques, and fun exercises, and is able to focus on little details to help out what you want to achieve towards your drumming! Carlos is also very patient, I work full time and he has been flexible with my work schedule, which works out great. I definitely recommend his lessons to learn drums or even improve upon them!
One cannot go wrong with Carlos as their personal music teacher. My son was 9 when he started drum lessons with Carlos, over two years ago. He's a fantastic teacher. He took the time to get to know my son and teaches to his needs, adapting as my son grows or how he is at the time of the lesson. He's encouraging, positive, but can be tough, too, when needed. Carlos taught us both about the drum set and whenever we need a replacement part, he finds us the best option. Carlos follows every lesson with an email about the lesson and homework. Truly personalized attention.
Carlos taught me for a couple of years. He gave me a ton of great exercises and was able to help me learn countless songs.
